From OHIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
Interstate 475 southbound between U.S. Route 24 and State Route 25 will be fully closed again beginning Friday night, May 29, and through the weekend to continue resurfacing and pavement work.
Southbound I-475 will close south of U.S. Route 24 on Friday, May 29, beginning after 8 p.m., and remain closed until Monday morning, June 1, at 6 a.m. Traffic will be detoured using I-475 northbound to Interstate 75,
This is the second in a series of full closures of southbound I-475 for pavement joint repair and paving that will occur over multiple weekends. Additional closures are scheduled for the weekend of June 5 – 8 and June 12 – 15.
The following ramps will close Friday evening and reopen Monday morning:
- Southbound I-475 on-ramp from Dussel Drive/Salisbury Road
- Southbound I-475 on-ramp from U.S. Route 20A
- Southbound I-475 on-ramp from U.S. Route 24
The southbound/eastbound ramp from State Route 25/Dixie Highway to I-75 north and south will remain open this weekend.
Message boards are posted south of each interchange throughout the I-475/U.S. 23 corridor informing motorists of this event.
The first, full closure of I-475 southbound in this same area occurred the weekend of May 8 – 11. The following was accomplished during the closure:
- 62 joints were repaired, roughly 24′ wide and 10-13″ in depth
- A new merge configuration on the eastbound I-475 ramp to northbound I-75 was placed. This work delayed the opening of the roadway, resulting in monetary penalties assessed to the contractor.
Full closures of I-475 northbound will occur once a bridge on State Route 795 over I-75 – currently closed for a deck replacement – reopens in July.
The repairs are part of a project that is resurfacing Interstate 75 and Interstate 475 near the Perrysburg interchange in Wood County, and Interstate 475 from Interstate 75 to the Maumee River.
The repairs are necessary maintenance until a proposed project on I-475 through Perrysburg takes place. The project would widen I-475 from I-75 in Wood County to U.S. Route 24 in Lucas County to three lanes; widen and reconstruct the I-475 bridges over the CSX Railroad, Fort Meigs Road, and Maumee River; reconstruct the I-75/I-475 and I-475/U.S. 24 interchanges; and realign the I-475/SR 25 interchange.
The project is not yet funded. The earliest the project could occur is 2032.
