Wood County Special Olympics athletes head to Ohio State Summer Games; sendoff celebration Friday morning

From WOOD COUNTY BOARD OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES

Wood County Special Olympics is proud to announce that 38 local athletes will represent Wood County at the Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games in Columbus Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, May 29, 14 track & field athletes and six bocce athletes will travel to Columbus to begin competition and proudly represent Wood County on the state stage. Several athletes will be attending the State Summer Games for the very first time and are especially excited for the opportunity to compete alongside athletes from across Ohio.

In addition, both of Wood County’s volleyball teams earned first place at Regionals, securing their spot at the State Summer Games. The teams will depart early Saturday, May 30, for a full day of competition.

The community is invited to help send off our Wildcats in style during a special Send-Off Celebration on Friday, May 29, at 8 a.m. at Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities, 1921 E. Gypsy Lane Road. Family members, friends, staff, and community supporters are encouraged to gather and cheer on the athletes as they depart for Columbus to compete at the Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games. The celebration will recognize the athletes’ hard work, dedication, and accomplishments while showing the incredible community support.

“We are incredibly proud of all our athletes for their hard work and dedication this season,” said Wood County Special Olympics Local Coordinator,Jen Krouse. “Earning the opportunity to compete at the state level is a tremendous accomplishment, and we are excited to see them showcase their skills and sportsmanship and most importantly…have fun!”
