Habitat for Humanity of Wood County is hosting a dual fundraiser revolving around fun, auctions and ball hockey to help raise thousands of dollars to support the construction of the second Habitat Home being built in Bowling Green.
Whether you are a hockey fan or not, both events are open to the public with no admission charge.
The first event is a ‘Draft Night’ with Silent Auction, on Sept. 27, hosted by Buffalo Wild Wings, in Bowling Green. BW3 will donate 15 percent of food purchases (alcohol and tax not included) to Habitat for Humanity of Wood County.
Six-plus teams will have the opportunity to draft a free agent player. Order of selection is based on which team raised the most funds during their own fundraising challenge. Free agent celebrity players include: Ryan Wichman, WTOL meteorologist; and the following retired pro hockey players Kyle Rogers (Walleye); Kyle Page (Walleye); Andy Suhy (Toledo Storm); Jeremy Bronson (Toledo Storm) and Mathieu Beaudoin (7 years in AHL).
Donors wishing to support their favorite team in their fundraising efforts can contribute by going to www.crowdrise.com/hockeyforhabitat2019 The team raising the most funds will be guests of the Huntington Bank Walleye Suite. The Silent Auction will include items/gift certificates from Wood County businesses, area attractions and sports memorabilia.
The second event, is the fourth annual Hockey for Habitat Ball Hockey Tournament with Live Auction, on Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the outdoor hockey rink in the Bowling Green City Park. Teams will feature the free agents, players from area businesses and those who love hockey. Teams will follow a bracket format to determine the champion.
Also, there will be a free Youth Play, where 8-13 year olds can participate. A live auction will be conducted by Don Rose. Auctioned items include Allegiant Air tickets, Warrior hockey equipment and more. Future Habitat homeowner, Amy Olea will make the ceremonial ball drop.
