Parents and caregivers often struggle with how to recognize signs and symptoms of drug use and other high-risk behaviors like vaping. More importantly, parents feel ill-equipped to effectively help loved ones receive necessary care.
This is where “Hidden in Plain Sight” can help.
The “Hidden in Plain Sight” traveling, interactive display will be at Bowling Green High School Performing Arts Center on Jan. 15. Adults will tour the display and listen to guest speakers, Ryan Richards (Wood County Detective), Scott Frank (Bowling Green Police Division), Matt (Bowling Green graduate and recovering addict) and Kayla DeMuth (Hidden in Plain Sight Health Educator) from 6 – 8 p.m.
This event is free to the public in cooperation with Bowling Green High School. Parents and caregivers only need attend.
The display looks like a typical bedroom. However, amidst the “normal” items are indicators of involvement in dangerous and/or illegal activity. The audience is encouraged to explore and interact with the display to become more aware of dangerous signs of substance use and abuse and listen to the speakers discuss current trends in youth.
The program aims to achieve the following goals:
– EDUCATE. Children are 50% less likely to use drugs when a parent or trusted adult talks with them about drug use.
– ENGAGE. Walk through the “Hidden In Plain Sight” interactive display and identify signs of drug use.
– EMPOWER. Provide parents and caregivers with tools to prevent future drug use.
The “Hidden in Plain Sight” Interactive Display is brought to you by the Hancock Leadership Class of 2018 in collaboration with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Findlay Police Department, Hancock Public Health and Hancock County Community Partnership.
As an incentive to encourage parents to attend this presentation, their student will be exempted from one final exam of their choice for the end of the second semester.
