Wood County is now up to 11,778 confirmed and probable cases and 208 deaths from COVID-19 since last March, according to the Thursday, March 11, update from the Wood County Health Department. That is 85 new cases and four more deaths reported since the last report on Monday, March 8.
The number of total COVID vaccines started in Wood County as of today is 27,198 – which is 20.79% of the county’s population.
The number of active COVID cases in the county today is 144, which is seven more than on Monday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
Of the total 208 deaths in Wood County, one was in her 20s, one was in his 30s, three were in their 40s, seven were in their 50s, 19 were in their 60s, 51 in their 70s, 78 in their 80s, and 46 in their 90s, and two in their 100s.
A total of 576 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since last March, with three more being hospitalized since Monday.
Of the total 11,693 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 38. Of those testing positive, 6,164 were female, and 5,614 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Thursday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of this week, there are 18 areas in the county with active cases.
The Bowling Green ZIP code area has the most this week, with 45-50 active cases, followed by Perrysburg with 40-45 cases. North Baltimore is next with 5-10 cases.
Areas with 1-5 cases each include Bloomdale, Cygnet, Jerry City, Luckey, Millbury, Milton Center, Northwood, Pemberville, Portage, Rossford, Rudolph, Tontogany, Walbridge, Wayne and Weston.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of March 1) in the county included 24 students and 9 staff:
- Bowling Green City Schools: 14 students, 4 staff.
- BG Christian Academy: 2 students, 0 staff.
- Eastwood: 1 student, 1 staff
- Penta Career Center: 1 student, 1 staff.
- Perrysburg: 5 students, 2 staff.
- Rossford: 1 student, 0 staff.
- Wood County ESC: 0 students, 1 staff.
Of the total COVID cases in Wood County, at least 916 have been in long-term care facilities. The cases recorded since last March include 474 residents and 442 staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Thursday. No new cases were reported last week.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 113 of Wood County’s deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
