BG American Legion Auxiliary asks community to support local veterans through Poppy Drive-Thru

Bowling Green American Legion Auxiliary Unit 45 is holding its Poppy Drive-Thru on Saturday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in front of the Veterans Memorial Building at Bowling Green City Park.

All donations made during our poppy drive-thru go directly to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans in our communities. This includes the VA clinics and veterans homes.

All one needs to do is drive through the parking lot, make a donation and collect a poppy all without exiting your vehicle. These poppies are hand made by veterans and commemorate the poem written by Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

        In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

        In Flanders fields.

We would deeply appreciate the community’s support in this endeavor. To our veterans: all gave some … some gave all. We must never forget.

With our heartfelt appreciation,

Jane Ridenour, Poppy Chairman
