The Wood County Emergency Management Agency has issued the following update on the upcoming winter weather:
Snow is expected to begin around 9 p.m. this evening (Thursday, 3/9/23) with the heaviest amount snow falling between 2-10 .a.m.
Due to the timing, the morning commute will most likely have some challenges but nothing NW Ohio is not accustomed to dealing with. There is a possibility of an additional inch between 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, 3/10/23), but any impacts from that should be minimal.
Total snowfall is expected to be approximately 3” in the northern portion of Wood County with 2-2.5” in the southern part of the county.
Counties to the north and west of us are currently under a Winter Weather Advisory and heavier snow amounts are expected in these counties. A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when snow, blowing snow, ice, sleet, or a combination of these wintery elements is expected but conditions should not be hazardous enough to meet warning criteria.
Should there be shift in the weather front (which is not expected at this time) then this could potentially increase forecasted snowfall amounts.
This snow is expected to be wet and heavy. It is recommended to use a snow blower if you are able. If you do not have one, try to push the snow rather than lift it, wear breathable clothing, wear warm boots, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and make sure to share your plans for shoveling with a family member, friend, or neighbor. Make a plan to check in on each other. This type of snow has unfortunately been associated with an increase in heart attacks.
The EMA will continue to monitor the conditions and provide any updates as appropriate. At this time, this appears to be a snow event common to NW Ohio.
