Addy Awards add up for BGSU marketing team

BGSU brought home gold, silver and bronze awards at the recent Addy Awards. Hosted by the American Advertising Federation Toledo, the annual event recognizes creativity in marketing, advertising and publications.

The BGSU Office of Marketing and Communications team, directed by Dave Kielmeyer, chief marketing and communications officer, and Fred Connor, senior director of marketing and communication, had wins in multiple divisions.

Marketing and Communications took the gold award for the “BGSU Holiday Greeting” in the category of Film, Video and Sound. Also contributing to the project were Amy West and Andrea Brock, directors of marketing and communications. It was produced in collaboration with Madhouse of Toledo. Rob Seiffert, partner and creative director, is a 2000 graduate of the University.

In the same category, BGSU took home silver award for the “BGSU Men’s Basketball Video” and “Women’s Basketball Video,” which were produced by Pete Fairbairn, marketing manager, in collaboration with Hart Associates. Mike Hart, president and CEO, is an alumnus of the University.

The University also received a bronze award in the Film, Video and Sound category with its “Belong. Stand Out. Go Far.” Advertising Campaign, which was produced in collaboration with Madhouse and Level 2 Audio. Contributing to this project was Andrea Brock.

Alumna Judy McFarland, president and CEO of Thread Inc. in Toledo, was presented with the Silver Medal Award, which recognizes individuals who make “outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been actively furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.”

Additional BGSU awards, led by Jeff Artz, creative director, included:

  • “BGSU Admissions Viewbook” – Silver award in Sales and Marketing category
  • “BGSU Admissions Collateral” – Silver award in Sales and Marketing category
  • “BGSU Presidential Mailer” – Silver award in Sales and Marketing category
  • “BGSU Greeting Card Series” – Bronze award in Elements of Advertising category

Amy Karlovec, senior graphic designer, took home a Silver award for her work on the “2017 Black Swamp Arts Festival” poster.

BGSU students under the leadership of Amy Fidler, School of Art, were also recognized in the student portion of the awards:

  • “Impression Portfolio Review Day” – Alexander Christian, student – Silver award
  • “Signs of the Times” – ARTD 3040 students – Bronze award
  • “2017 BGSU ArtsX Make. Believe.” – ARTD 4060 graphic design practicum students – Bronze award

“These awards continue to showcase the many talented and creative people at BGSU including those on our team, the students as well as alumni,” Kielmeyer said. “It’s an honor to be recognized by the creative community for our efforts.”
