Ardanelle “Tootie” Smith, 87, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away June 19, 2018. Tootie was born on July 14, 1930 to the late Herbert and Daydn (Cheatwood) Shaffer in Dunbridge, Ohio. She married Franklin Smith on October 13, 1951 in the Webster United Brethren Church in Bowling Green and he preceded her in death.
Tootie is survived by her sons: Michael (Megan), David, and Jeffery Smith all of Bowling Green; brother Robert Shaffer of Defiance; sister-in-law Kate Shaffer of Bowling Green; five grandchildren; 1 step granddaughter; 6 great grandchildren; and special friend Donna Snyder of Bowling Green. Tootie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank, seven brothers, and three sisters.
Tootie was a graduate of Webster High School. She a was homemaker and provided child care to numerous children. Tootie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she volunteered to help families in need; the Wood County Historical Society where she served on the Tea Committee, also known as the Tea Baggers. The tea baggers baked cookies and made the teas extra special. She was so well known for her cookies, which she baked and gave with love. If you were given a “Toottie Cookie” you knew that you were loved! She enjoyed spending time at the Wood County Senior Center. She was a faithful member of the Loyal Hearts Sunday School class. She enjoyed singing in the church choir; and getting together to play dominos and cards with her friends.
Tootie was a diehard Cleveland Indians fan and could tell you everything about them. Most of all, her family was the most important part of her life and she especially enjoyed spending time with her 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Family reunions were special to her.
Visitation for Tootie will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1460 W. Wooster Street, Bowling Green, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home Remembrance Chapel. Interment will follow immediately in Wood County Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions in Tootie’s honor may be gifted to either Trinity United Methodist Church or the Wood County Historical Society.
