Ardy Gonyer files as candidate for Bowling Green Board of Education

Dr. Howard “Ardy” Gonyer has announced he is running for the Bowling Green City School District board of education in the Nov. 7 general election. 

Gonyer was born and raised in Bowling Green, and is an alumnus of the school district (BGHS class of 2004). Gonyer worked in higher education for more than 10 years, earning his doctorate in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University.

Currently, Gonyer is co-owner of Call of the Canyon Café and Catering in downtown Bowling Green and he is involved in numerous community organizations. He previously served as president of the Ohio College Personnel Association, president of the Bowling Green Area Community Bands, and president of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Council. Currently, he serves on the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Board, and the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Foundation Board.

Gonyer said he believes that maintaining and improving the quality of local public schools is the top priority, not only for the benefit of current and future students, but also for the local economy.

“Updating the current facilities to provide an excellent learning environment is the number one priority” along with “the board improving on its relationship with all stakeholders to create an open, honest line of communication with everyone in the district,” he said.
