Local artist Ian Dawson has found a way to both experiment with a new medium and give back to his community.

“I am on the autism spectrum, and am a recovering alcoholic,” Dawson said. “I was looking for a way I could help of those causes. At the same time, I was learning how to use resin in my art and decided to look for a way to do both.”

He landed on the idea of creating resin ribbons of red, to represent alcohol awareness, and blue, to represent autism awareness and is making them into earrings, necklaces and keychains of various sizes.

“I really want to spread the word about both issues,” Dawson said. “This is a way to let people know that it is okay to be on the spectrum and it is okay to be in recovery and to reach out for help. Doing this is giving me some peace of mind.”

Fifty percent of the proceeds of the red ribbons will be donated to Team Recovery, and of the blue to the Autism Center of Northwest Ohio.

They can be purchased at Round N Round Gifts, 331 N. Main St. in Bowling Green, Myla Marcus, 133 S. Main,,  or through messaging Dawson on his Facebook page, his email artisticcreationsbyian@gmail.com or my page Artistic Creations by Ian.

“I’m hoping this helps others in my situation, both as individuals and through the organizations that support them,” he said.
