Bernadette Marie Nissen

Bernadette M. Nissen (age 85) of Pemberville, Ohio passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Wood Haven Health Care in Bowling Green. She was born March 19, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio to Edmund and Cecelia (Szymanowski) Obarski. She graduated high school from Notre Dame Academy in Toledo and later attended Davis College for 2 years. On July 29, 1958 she married Melvin Randolph Nissen in Toledo and together they would have four children. Bernadette worked for a number of years as a Key Punch Operator for Prestolite in Toledo and later for Elder-Beerman Department Stores. Devout to her faith she was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Gibsonburg, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. Bernadette, in addition to being a wife and mother, she was also a proud homemaker that loved to cook and garden. Above all she had an immense love of her family taking special delight in her grandchildren.

Bernadette is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years Melvin, children: Randolph (Julie) Nissen of Pemberville, Christopher (Marta) Nissen of Merrimack, NH, Laurel (Charles) Hummel of Pemberville, grandchildren: Matthew Nissen, Michael (Brooke) Nissen, Joshua Nissen, Celia Nissen, Andrew Nissen, David Hummel, great grandchild: Chase Nissen and sister: Margaret (Robert) Philipps of Pemberville. She was preceded in death by her parents and infant daughter Maria.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, March 20, 2017 from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Marsh Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville, OH. The Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church located at 317 E. Madison St. Gibsonburg, Fr. Christopher Bazar, Celebrant. Interment will be in Pemberville Union Cemetery, Pemberville. A bereavement luncheon will be held at the Pemberville Freedom Twp. American Legion Post #183 immediately following the cemetery committal services. Memorials may take the form of contributions to: The Alzheimer Association or St. Michael Catholic Church.
