Team Marcin of the Bowling Green Black Swamp Curling Club won the Great Lakes Curling Association’s (GLCA) District Junior Curling Championship held at the Mayfield Curling Club in Warrensville, Ohio, Dec. 8-10.

This qualifies the team to compete at the 2024 U-18 National Curling Championship at the Rock Creek Curling Club, Lafayette, Colorado, scheduled Jan. 11-14.

Team members include Team Skip Peyton Marcin, senior at BG High School; Vice Skip Jacob Luce, senior at Perrysburg High School; Second Evan Dauernheim, a high school junior from Vienna, Virginia; and Lead Zack Meyer, freshmen at Perrysburg High School.

As a tune-up for the National Championship, the team will be curling in the U-18 Runback Championship in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, Dec. 27-28.

The United States U-18 Championship has been sponsored annually since 2017 by the United States Curling Association, (USCA) and is for both male and female curling teams whose members were under age 18 as of June 30 of the year preceding the National Championship.

The championship is aimed at developing junior curlers by providing a competitive experience to determine the nation’s top teams, both boys and girls. There are 185 curling clubs and approximately 23,500 curlers in the US. Curling is now an Olympic sport and the USCA is dedicated to promoting the sport recreationally for men and women of all ages, developing competitive curlers to compete nationally and internationally.
