BG Chamber awards two scholarships

The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce has announced the recipients of its annual High School and Collegiate Scholarships: Mariah Hahn of Eastwood High School and Kaylee Dean of Bowling Green State University.

Hahn, a senior at Eastwood, is planning on attending Bowling Green State University this fall with a probable major of exercise science/pre-med and Spanish minor. She was incredibly involved in her time at Eastwood as a four-year member of the Key Club, FFA, and Eastwood One Step Ahead. Additionally, she was a two-year member of the National Honor Society and the Junior and Senior Exec Committee her final two years at Eastwood, and was named Class Vice President her senior year. 

Outside the classroom, Hahn was a four-year member of the women’s golf team and was named Most Valuable Golfer her final three seasons. She also spent three years on the women’s track and field team, which was NBC Champions and District runners-up. Hahn has also volunteered at Zion Lutheran Church, Wood County 4-H, BGSU, the University of Toledo, and assisted at other events, such as Cancer Awareness Month Fundraiser, Wreaths Across America, Community Leaf Raking, Trunk-or-Treat, the Special Olympics, and more. Her career goal is to work as an emergency room doctor or physician’s assistant.

Dean, a rising junior at BGSU, currently holds a 4.0 GPA in environmental science with a specialization in education and interpretation. She is a pillar of the BGSU community, with leadership positions in the Chapman Learning Community (Chapman Student Leader), Student Green Initiatives Fund Committee (Meeting Facilitator), and Outdoor Adventure Club (Activities Coordinator).

Additionally, she has volunteered as a Community Garden Student Manager, Falcon Food Pantry Intern, and at the Green Game Day, Eco-Fair, Electronic Recycling Drive, Sexual Assault Awareness 5K, Bloomfest, Green Team and Campus ReStore. Off campus, she also volunteered at Healing of Our Veterans Equine Services (H.O.O.V.E.S.), Clean You Streams Day, BG Parks and Recreation Foundation, Wood County Parks District, American Red Cross, Black Swamp Arts Festival, and BG Parks and Recreation. 

Her career goal is to create change within communities around the world through international environmental 501(c)(3) non-profits.
