BG churches to ring bells at noon on Wednesday to show support of community

The BG Ministerial Association is planning to share a symbol that God is with them in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. On Wednesday, March 25, at noon, all of the churches with bells in Bowling Green have been asked to ring their bells as a show of support and love to the community. The churches without bells are being asked to place a picture of a church bell on their social media pages.

Then all of the churches are asking their congregants to pray at that time for our community and the world.

This idea was suggested retired pastor Rev. Betty Wineland, who attends Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowling Green. She suggested it would be a way for our churches to come together to support the community and share the love of God even when we cannot meet together.

I know other churches are joining in with Grounds For Thought to sew masks, the sewing group at Trinity UMC, the First Presbyterian Church and the First Christian Church are all participating among others.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we really want to be as present for our community as we can while practicing social distancing to save lives. We trust that God is with us and journeying with us through these difficult and uncertain times.

Isaiah 43:2 reminds us that when we journey through rough waters, God will go with us, God will not let us drown. As people of faith we are relying on Christ. We hope that the ringing of the church bells on Wednesday will give people hope and comfort, letting them know that God is here. He has not forsaken us.
