For the second consecutive month, Bowling Green City Schools was graced with a record number of donations from the community.

At January’s school board meeting, Superintendent Francis Scruci read aloud a list of $16,258 in donations from local residents, businesses and organizations.

This week, during the February board meeting, Scruci read an even longer list – totaling $18,010.

“I’d like to thank these donors,” he said after pausing to catch his breath.

Once again, the donations were earmarked to pay for unpaid lunch balances for students, lunchboxes, school supplies, snacks for students and toiletries.

Donations were also made to help with 1BookBG, fifth grade camp, the after prom, sound and lighting for the performing arts center, FFA, drama club, DECA, and school choirs.

Board member Ginny Stewart praised the generosity of the community for donations to the district. But as she does every month, Stewart listed the continuing needs at each school building:

  • Conneaut Elementary needs girls pants, sizes 10, 12 and 14.
  • Crim Elementary needs bottled water, Goldfish crackers and Cheez-Its.
  • Kenwood Elementary needs healthy snacks for students, boys and girls pants sizes 10-12, and 4-6 ounces drinking cups.
  • Middle School Bobcat Basics needs individually packaged snacks, with no peanuts, and new socks and underwear in all sizes.
  • High School Bobcat Academy needs bottled water, healthy pre-packaged snacks for students with no nuts.

The district’s food service department is continuing to accept donations for the 1BookBG program and for unpaid lunch bills, since students are provided with food regardless of their ability to pay.
