Bowling Green is a step closer to growing by 57 acres to the north.
The city planning commission voted Wednesday evening to approve a request to annex two parcels located east of Ohio 25, north of Newton Road, and west of the CSX railroad tracks. The request will next go to City Council for consideration.
The parcels, one 46 acres and the other 11 acres, are owned by Robert W. Maurer. While the larger parcel has frontage on Newton Road, the smaller parcel to the north has no road frontage.
The property, currently in Center Township, is located south of the proposed Abbott Lab being built at the southeast corner of Nims Road and Route 25.
The annexation has already been approved by the Wood County Commissioners.
Though no plans were noted for the acreage, Maurer has requested that the interim zoning for the property be I-E, innovation employment. The land is currently zoned for agricultural use.
The planning commission recommended approval of the zoning change request.
In other business at Wednesday’s meeting, the planning commission was asked to approve the final plat for the Stone Brook second addition, located on the west side of the city, west of Mitchell Road between Bowling Green Road West and Sand Ridge Road.
The subdivision currently has 3.6 acres with 16 parcels remaining to develop. The development is zoned R-2 medium density residential, with plans for zero lot line villas.
A member of the planning commission, Julie Broadwell, told the Stone Brook developer that she had been contacted by city residents expressing concerns about the condition of the acreage planned for the final plat.
Broadwell said she checked out the property and saw the mound of dirt, blowing plastic, and pallets stacked up. She asked the developer if that construction debris was customary in subdivisions being developed in multiple stages.
The developer assured that the property will be cleaned up, probably in June.
The planning commission approved the plans for the addition.
The commission also approved a request for an extension on the preliminary plans for plats 10-14 in the Cogan’s Crossing Subdivision, located at the northeast corner of Brim and Bishop roads, on the north side of the city. The developer asked for a year-long extension on the new housing being built in the development.
