BG FFA members hold fruit sale, learn about poultry nutrition, practice job interviews

BG FFA members

BG FFA chapter sold $50,558 during its annual fruit sale. This is the only fundraiser the chapter does to fund all of the activities that members participate in throughout the year.  Members are involved in all aspects of the fundraiser including pricing, marketing, ordering, assembling fruit baskets, sorting, and delivering to customers.

The members of the Animal and Plant Science Class wrapped up their poultry nutrition project by taking their chickens to a local processing plant to be harvested. The members learned how to cut up a whole chicken into its retail parts. The members use this project to illustrate proper nutrition and feeding practices when caring for livestock.

The Food Science team competed in a contest requiring members to complete a series of practicums such as food sensory evaluation and food analysis as well as complete a group food product development project. The team consisted of Eddie Eschedor, Hunter Sockman, Addie Naus, Averie Crawford, Aiden Meyer, and Madison Carrillo. The team placed thirrd at the district level, and Eddie Eschedor also placed fourth individually.

Grace O’Connell, Addie Naus, Delanie Jarvi, Peyton Bosworth, and Madison Carrillo participated in the Wood County Sub District Job Interview contest. For this contest, members completed a resume, job application, cover letter, a mock job interview, and a follow up letter.

The chapter had State Treasurer, Katie Oestriech, from Eastwood come and visit. During her time at the chapter, each class was able to participate in activities about team building, FFA opportunities, and dealing with stress.

At the end of November, the Bowling Green FFA attended a State FFA Leadership Night for area schools hosted by Elmwood High School. Approximately 20 members joined other members from Northwest Ohio schools and participated in a one-hour leadership workshop. The workshop was presented by three state FFA officers. Members enjoyed pizza after the workshop.

The Bowling Green Agricultural Education Department is a satellite program of Penta Career Center.
