BG grandma cited for child endangerment after toddler found outside in only his diaper

A toddler, wearing only a diaper, was found running outside by himself around 11 a.m. today.

Bowling Green Police Division responded after a woman saw the 2-year-old boy walking barefooted in the 600 block of Seventh Street. The temperature outside was about 32 degrees at the time, with snow and ice on the ground.

The woman had put the toddler in her car to keep him warm. Police called Wood County Children’s Services.

“We were trying to get some clothes for the child,” Police Major Justin White said.

The toddler was unable to state his name, or where he lived.

About a half hour later, police located the grandmother, Cynthia Ferguson, who had been watching the child. Ferguson reportedly told police she may have fallen asleep while watching her grandson. She was awoken by the toddler’s sibling, who told her the boy had left the apartment.

Ferguson was cited for endangering children.

White said the toddler was not injured by being unclothed outside. “He was just cold,” White said.
