The second of the inspirational educators will be honored and make a presentation at this Thursday’s Bowling Green Kiwanis Club noon luncheon at Stone Ridge Golf Club.

Each February, the BG Kiwanis Club celebrates Inspirational Educator Month, honoring a teacher from the elementary, the middle school, and the high school.

Pat Carney, a social studies teacher at Bowling Green Middle School for the last 21 years, will address the Kiwanians about his efforts to go beyond the history book with his students.

Carney says he tries to build relationships with his students by instilling values such as perseverance and tolerance as well as teaching history to his students.  Carney is in his 21st year teaching at the BG Middle School, nine years at the seventh grade level and the last 12 year at eighth grade.

Carney grew up in Euclid, Ohio, and graduated from Euclid High School before enrolling at Bowling Green State University.  He received his bachelors degree in education from BGSU in 1998 and masters degree from BGSU in 2002.

He has coached cross country and track in the BG school system for 21 years and has been the head cross country coach at BGHS since 2011 and the head track & field coach in 2013.
