BG man charged with shoplifting from store, with stolen items from 2 other stores reportedly in his vehicle

A Bowling Green man was charged with shoplifting adult diapers from Walmart on Sunday. When police checked his vehicle, he reportedly had other unpaid for items, including eight steaks from one store, and bacon-wrapped poppers from another.

Jack Wylie, 64, was cited for theft/shoplifting by Bowling Green Police Division.

Shortly after noon on Sunday, a police officer was taking a crash report in the Walmart parking lot, when the store greeter yelled to the officer about a theft. The officer saw a man pushing an overloaded cart full of adult diapers. The man reportedly looked over at police and then began running.

When the officer asked Wylie why he was running, Wylie reportedly said he was not running, he was just looking for his car to get his wallet to go back in to pay for the items in his cart.

Wylie then reportedly showed police where his car was, which he had passed while running across the lot.

Upon looking in the car windows, the officer reportedly saw numerous unbagged food items in the back seat. The officer asked if the groceries had been paid for with credit card or cash, and Wylie reportedly replied “both.”

The police asked for receipts for the items, which Wylie was unable to provide.

Items from Meijer included eight steaks, lunchmeat and pistachios totaling $112.81. Items from Kroger included milk, bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers, English muffins and sub sandwich kits, totaling $52.11.

In the Walmart shopping cart had $189 in Depends, plus four packs of cheese.

Walmart issued a trespassing notice against Wylie, since this was not his first offense at the store.
