Bowling Green Police Division responded to a single vehicle crash Thursday around 4 p.m. at 1079 N. Main St. When police arrived on the scene, they found a black Lincoln sedan that had struck a city crosswalk pole.
Witnesses told police that after hitting the pole, the driver, Jonathan Steinke, 40, of Bowling Green, appeared to keep accelerating the car and spinning the tires. Two people said Steinke was passed out behind the wheel, and the music in the car was blaring. One of the men said he reached into the car to shut it off.
Steinke reportedly told police that he was drinking, and had called a friend to come get him. But he ended up driving himself.
Steinke reportedly failed the field sobriety tests, then submitted a breath sample showing his blood alcohol content was 0.179. He was cited for not maintaining reasonable control and OVI.
