BG Police arrest 4 men in related overnight incidents

Four men were arrested and taken to Wood County Jail after a series of connected incidents overnight in Bowling Green.

Andy Smart, 21, Swanton, was charged with felony domestic violence, endangering children and assault.

Jarious Minter, 22, Bowling Green, was charged with domestic violence and criminal damaging.

Tony Vaccaro, 19, Bowling Green, was arrested for disorderly conduct with persistence, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and underage under the influence of alcohol.

Josef Heuser, 20, Bowling Green, was arrested for disorderly conduct with persistence, criminal mischief, and underage under the influence of alcohol.

Bowling Green Police Division received the first of three related calls Monday at 10 p.m., in the 1000 block of Fairview Avenue, for a physical fight in a parking lot. Police dispatch was told that the men were threatening to shoot each other.

Police reportedly confiscated a knife from Vaccaro, who allegedly refused to give officers his name and who was trying to spit on the arresting officers. After becoming calm, Vaccaro reportedly told police he had consumed an entire bottle of alcohol in the previous few hours.

Other officers reported hearing yelling coming from an apartment and asked the tenant if anyone in the apartment had been involved in the fight. The resident said no, but a short time later Heuser walked out of the apartment and reportedly began quickly walking away.

Heuser, who had dried blood on his lip and nostrils, reportedly refused to stop for police. He was detained, but denied being involved in a fight.

However, a witness told police that Heuser had been fighting with Vaccaro, and had punched her vehicle as he walked past it.

Both Vaccaro and Heuser were transported to jail.

Later in the evening, around 11:05 p.m., police were called back to the 1000 block of Fairview Avenue for a report of domestic violence, in which Smart reportedly struck a woman in the face.

Smart was reportedly upset about the fight that had occurred previously in the evening.

A neighbor told police she heard the commotion and saw Smart hit the woman in the face. The neighbor then grabbed the four children in the apartment and took them to her apartment to keep them safe. Another neighbor told police she had tried to get the baby out of the apartment, and Smart grabbed her by the throat and told her to get out.

An ambulance was called to the scene since Smart had a large knife wound to his arm that he told police was self-inflicted. Officers used a diaper on the wound to try to stop the bleeding.

Smart reportedly became combative with the EMS personnel, and yelled racial slurs at police and fire division personnel. He was taken to Wood County Hospital for treatment.

As police were photographing the apartment, they heard noise from the second floor. Upstairs they found Minter, who was reportedly intoxicated. He told police that he had fallen asleep and was not aware of anything occurring.

Minter was asked if there was anyone who could take custody of him due to his level of intoxication. He said his mom, who lived in the 200 block of Lehman Avenue, would take him, so police transported him to her house.

Shortly after, around 12:23 a.m., police were called to the apartment on Lehman Avenue, due to Minter reportedly being hostile toward family members after they tried to stop him from returning to the apartments on Fairview Avenue.

Minter reportedly began destroying several electronics and throwing household items, some hitting a family member in the face. When he allegedly ripped the 55-inch television off the wall and broke it in half, a family member called the police.

Police reported seeing household items strewn about the residence, including the shattered TV. Minter was taken to jail.
