A Chicago man was arrested New Year’s Day for domestic violence in Bowling Green.
Bowling Green Police Division received a report of domestic violence at a hotel on East Wooster Street, Friday at 11:25 p.m.
Officers found the alleged victim, who stated her husband, Paul Joseph Basic, 50, shoved her against the wall, causing her to pass out. She said she woke up to her husband screaming at her and dragging her to the foot of the bed. She said he then slapped her and hit her in the head. Her husband then left the room.
Police found Basic in his truck in the parking lot of the Meijer Store on East Wooster Street.
Basic denied hitting his wife, and reportedly told police that his wife’s hormones cause her to act differently sometimes.
Basic told police he had consumed some alcohol, and that he had a firearm in his truck. Police found an automatic pistol in the pocket on the back of the front passenger seat. The magazine with six live rounds of ammunition was in the pistol.
Basic failed the field sobriety tests, and refused to take a breath test, according to the police report. He was charged with domestic violence, using weapons while intoxicated, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was taken to the Wood County jail.
