BG Police arrest man for reportedly failing to admit carrying concealed weapon downtown

Bowling Green Police arrested a man after he reportedly failed to admit carrying a concealed weapon Friday, around 10:30 p.m., in the downtown city parking lot on East Court Street.

An officer stopped in the parking lot after seeing a man standing next to a vehicle, drinking an alcoholic beverage. The vehicle had three other occupants in it, and a strong smell of burnt marijuana.

Police asked if anyone had a firearm, and three replied they did not. The only person not to reply was Jahkai Owens, 21, of Elyria. The officer searched Owens, who reportedly told police he was just protecting his friends.

The officer reportedly found a handgun in Owens’ sweatshirt pocket. The Glock 19 reportedly was loaded with one round in the chamber and 15 rounds in the magazine.

Police also found more open containers of alcoholic beverages and marijuana in the vehicle.

Owens was arrested for failure to disclose carrying a concealed weapon, and open container. He was taken to Wood County Jail.

The others in the vehicle were cited for open containers, marijuana, and one for underage possession of alcohol.
