Two women cited for theft after reportedly shoplifting $652 in groceries from Walmart

Two Bowling Green women were cited for theft after reportedly shoplifting $652.78 worth of groceries from Walmart on Friday afternoon.

The women, both 20 years old, were reportedly seen leaving the store around 3 p.m. with two carts of merchandise. When asked for a receipt by an employee, they reportedly ran out of the store and quickly threw the items in a vehicle. Walmart staff was able to get the license plate of the car.

A Bowling Green Police officer located the vehicle, and pulled it over on East Gypsy Lane Road at Klotz Road. The officer reportedly asked about the large amount of unbagged merchandise in the back seat, and asked to see a receipt. The driver reportedly told police she paid for the items, but did not receive a receipt.

The officer observed a couple containers of fresh fruit in the driver’s purse. The driver reportedly stated she was hungry.

Police removed the merchandise from the rear seat, along with several items of stolen merchandise from each of the women’s purses.

The two women were cited and banned from Walmart.
