BG police arrest two men for roles in robbery

Two men were arrested for robbery by Bowling Green police officers Wednesday night.

Cody Martin, 28, of New Port, Michigan, and Dakota Wcislak, 21, of Portage, were charged with robbery after police were called around 11:30 p.m., to an apartment complex in the 900 block of Thurstin Avenue where someone was reportedly trying to break in.

When police arrived, they saw Martin and Wcislak walking away from the apartment building. Police found cash in Martin’s pocket that he reportedly admitted was not his, and found a debit card on the ground nearby, that belonged to a resident of the apartment complex.

Martin told police someone had picked his pocket at a bar on Saturday night, reportedly stealing $250 from him. He did not see the person who picked his pocket, but was told by someone else that the person lived in the apartment complex on Thurstin Avenue. Martin reportedly told police that he and Wcislak went to the apartment complex Wednesday night to get his money back.

Wcislak, however, reportedly told police he and Martin were at the apartment complex to get his $1,000 back. Wcislak said he parked his car downtown this past Saturday, and left it unlocked with $600 belonging to him, and $400 belonging to another friend, inside the car.

Wcislak said the person they suspected in stealing the money lived in the Thurstin Avenue apartment complex.

When two residents of the apartment left to get food, Martin and Wcislak were waiting for them and started fighting. Police arrived shortly after, and no one was seriously injured, according to the police report.

Police took Martin and Wcislak to the Wood County jail. While there, an officer spoke with an inmate, who Wcislak said had $400 stolen from his car. The inmate said she was not missing any money, and there would be no reason for Wcislak to be trying to get money back on her behalf.
