Bowling Green Police cited a 78-year-old man for criminal damaging after he allegedly scraped two large “X” scratches on a pickup truck parked in the downtown area on Friday (Dec. 29).

The driver of the vehicle said he believed his truck was damaged the previous night when he was parked in the 100 block of East Court Street between 8 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Police reviewed footage from downtown cameras, and saw that at 11:55 p.m. a man walked up to the truck and appeared to scratch the rear passenger door, then the front passenger door.

The man in the video walked with a distinctive limp, and was reportedly recognized by multiple officers in the camera footage as Richard Slandzicki, 78, who lives in the same block of East Court Street.

On Saturday, police spoke with Slandzicki at his apartment. He reportedly admitted to scratching the truck and said he would pay for the damages. He was given a misdemeanor citation for criminal damaging.
