BG Police cite driver after getting multiple phone calls reporting his reckless driving

Bowling Green Police Division received multiple calls about a reckless driver on Sunday evening. The first call came in around 5:30 p.m. from a man who stated a southbound vehicle almost ran him off the road as he was traveling northbound on North Main Street.

The caller said the vehicle was a silver Dodge Avenger. Officers checked the area, but could not locate the vehicle.

A second call came in around 6:30 p.m., from the same caller saying the same vehicle almost drove him off the road again, this time on South Main Street south of Napoleon Road.

A couple minutes later, another driver called the police, stating a vehicle turning eastbound on East Wooster Street was “all over the road.” The caller gave police the license plate number, and said the vehicle turned into a parking lot in the 400 block of East Wooster Street.

Police found the Dodge Avenger and its driver, Cristhian Gomez, 19, of Bowling Green. Because of a language barrier, the police officer called a Wood County Sheriff’s deputy to translate.

Once the Spanish translator was there, police had Gomez perform field sobriety tests, which he had difficulty completing. An officer viewed downtown camera footage and reportedly saw Gomez’s vehicle crossing into oncoming traffic on North Main Street.

Gomez was cited for OVI with a blood alcohol content of 0.264, failure to stay in marked lanes, operating a vehicle without a driver’s license, and drug abuse/hashish.
