Bowling Green Police are investigating the theft of $1,380 in merchandise taken from Dunham’s Sports in the Woodland Mall, 1234 N. Main St.

Police were called to the store Wednesday around 4 p.m., after a man and woman reportedly walked out of the store with items they had not purchased. Employees of the store told police the woman was at the cash register getting several items rung up, when the man reportedly walked out carrying a speaker, boom box and four packs of earbuds.

The woman reportedly attempted to pay for the items with two prepaid gift cards, but both cards were declined. The woman then reportedly reached across the counter and collected all of the bags and exited the store.

The items taken by the man totaled $250, while the woman walked out with 22 items totaling $1,130.

The man and woman reportedly got into an older dark blue Chevrolet. The Dunham’s employees were unable to read the license plate since a blue paper mask was reportedly blocking the plate. The car traveled northbound on North Main Street.

Dunham’s staff was able to provide photos of the vehicle and video footage of the incident.
