Bowling Green Police responded to McDonald’s on East Wooster Street this morning for a man reportedly asleep at the wheel in the drive-thru.
Between midnight and 3:50 a.m. on New Year’s Day, the police division cited four drivers for operating vehicles while intoxicated. The other three reports were not available this morning.
Police received a call from a McDonald’s employee about a driver who had reportedly been sleeping for several minutes and was holding up traffic in the drive-thru.
When police arrived, they found Marlon Sevilla, 25, Perrysburg, reportedly asleep at the drive-thru ordering station. The vehicle was in drive and Sevilla had his foot on the brake.
An officer reported having to knock on the window several times to wake up the driver. Once awake, Sevilla appeared to be very confused and it took him a few moments to explain where he was at. When he rolled down his driver side window, police reportedly identified a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. An officer observed an open container of what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage in the passenger seat and a bag of marijuana, along with a burnt marijuana blunt on top of an empty can in the center console.
Sevilla reportedly refused to get out of the vehicle, so officers placed “terminators” on each side of the front passenger tire to keep the car from moving.
After he agreed to get out of the car, Sevilla reportedly had difficulty performing the field sobriety tests. He was placed under arrest.
While searching the vehicle, police reportedly seized two packages of marijuana, an open container of alcohol, and a firearm in the center console. The pistol was loaded with a round in the chamber, and seven rounds in the magazine. Another firearm, an AR pistol, was reportedly found on the back seat. That gun was not loaded.
A breath test by Sevilla at the station registered 0.041.
He was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and having weapons while intoxicated. He was taken to Wood County Jail.
