BG Police Division’s license plate camera spots trailer stolen from Michigan

A stolen trailer was spotted by one of Bowling Green Police Division’s license plate cameras in the 100 block of East Wooster Street on Monday morning.

The tilt trailer has been reported stolen from Ottawa Lake, Michigan.

Police located the trailer attached to a pickup truck parked in the 400 block of West Wooster Street. A man in the truck showed police a handwritten bill of sale for the trailer, which he reportedly purchased on Nov. 9, for $1,200. The man, from Millbury, told police he met the seller on Facebook Market Place, then met to buy the trailer in a WalMart parking lot in Toledo.

BG Police tried to find the vehicle identification number on the trailer, but it had been sandblasted and repainted.

An officer spoke with the Michigan owner of the trailer, who had reported it stolen on Nov. 18. The owner had reportedly been out of town for 11 days and returned to find the trailer missing.

BG Police reported the Millbury man will not be charged with receiving stolen property since he believed he was purchasing the trailer legally.
