BG Police respond to City Park for vandalism, midnight pool trespassers, and stolen bicycles

Bowling Green City Park was the site of more restroom vandalism, two men trespassing for a midnight dip at the pool, and two stolen bikes over the weekend.

Bowling Green Police Division received the first report on Saturday shortly after 8 a.m., when park staff found the men’s restroom near the skate park had been vandalized.

The floor was covered with pink soap, the soap dispenser was destroyed, and toilet paper rolls had been stabbed with something sharp. The responding officer advised that it might be best to lock the restrooms overnight to curb vandalism. However, park staff said that was attempted in the past, but caused citizen complaints.

On Sunday, around 12:30 a.m., police received a call from a resident in the 600 block of Fairview Avenue, that their Ring doorbell camera had detected movement and recorded footage of two men getting out of a vehicle and putting ski masks on.

Police found the vehicle near the 500 block of Fairview Avenue. Inside was a female driver and two men who appeared to be wet. The driver reportedly told police that the men had put masks on, climbed the fence at the City Pool and jumped in the water.

Both men were charged with criminal trespassing.

Later on Sunday, around 3:25 p.m., an officer driving through City Park was flagged down by a woman whose bike was reportedly stolen while she was at the pool.

Then around 4:15 p.m., another bike was reported stolen from City Park, with it last been seen headed north on Fairview Avenue

An officer spotted two juveniles reportedly riding the stolen bikes near Kroger on North Main Street. The bikes were returned to their owners, and the parents of the juveniles were told that the police reports would be sent to the juvenile prosecutor to consider charges.
