BG Police respond to large fight at Waffle House early Sunday morning

Bowling Green Police responded to a fight involving several people Sunday (1/28) around 2:30 a.m., at the Waffle House, at 1548 E. Wooster St. When officers arrived, the scene inside was loud and chaotic, and difficult to decipher who was involved, according to the police report.

A staff member told police the man who started the fight had gone outside, and she pointed in the direction of a man standing outside. Police detained the man outside, while trying to determine what transpired inside.

Police found a woman locked in the women’s restroom with a group of her friends and her husband. She told police the incident began when an unknown man was sitting in the booth she and her friends had, and refused to move. She reportedly said she saw something looking like the handle of a handgun in the man’s coat pocket.

The woman then called her husband, who was outside at the time, to come back into the restaurant. When her husband asked the man to move, an altercation began.

The woman told police she tried to leave, but got pushed into the glass at the exit and was pinned down. She was able to get to the bathroom with her friends, and locked the door.

A staff member reportedly told the husband that the other male had a gun, and if he went outside he would be shot. The unknown man and two others left the restaurant before police arrived.

The man being detained by police was released, after multiple witnesses said he tried to stop the altercation.

BG Fire Division took the woman, who is pregnant, to Wood County Hospital to make sure there were no injuries.

Police are using security video to investigate the incident.
