BG Police respond to three reports of thefts at businesses on East Wooster Street

Bowling Green Police were called to three thefts on East Wooster Street last week – at a restaurant, hotel and storage unit business.

The first was reported Wednesday (1/10) around 5:20 p.m., when a customer staying at a hotel in the 1600 block of East Wooster Street told police a new TV was stolen from the trunk of his vehicle. The man, from Pennsylvania, stayed at the hotel while moving his son to Bowling Green.

The father didn’t notice anything amiss until he began driving his son to his residence, and noticed the trunk was slightly ajar.

The manager of the hotel was asked to review the security cameras to see if the theft was filmed.

Then on Thursday (1/11) around 1 p.m., police were dispatched to a storage unit business in the 1700 block of East Wooster Street. A man renting a unit reported the latch being broken and some items missing, including Army-issued winter boots and a used car stereo.

An employee said the security camera at the site only holds two days of video before recording over it. The video was reviewed and showed no breaking and entering attempts.

Then around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday (1/11), police were called to a restaurant in the 1500 block of East Wooster Street. The owner reported a light-up sign had been stolen from the patio on Jan. 3. The sign, valued at $3,000, goes out by the roadway and directs people to the business.

The owner showed police a video from a security camera of two men at the bar, who went out on the patio to smoke. One reportedly motioned at the sign. The other man returned to the bar. Minutes later, the man who had pointed at the sign pulled up near the patio in a “jacked-up” pickup truck, jumped over the patio wall and put the sign in the back of his truck, then drove away.

The business owner sent police a photo of the man and the sign. The theft is under investigation.
