The Bowling Green State University Department of Theatre and Film will host the 25th annual BG Film and Media Festival from Friday, April 4, to Sunday, April 6, on the second floor of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union, featuring creative works by students and regional filmmakers.
Arranged by student organization BG Reel, the free, three-day juried festival will include two evenings of short film screenings, an afternoon of film studies presentations, an afternoon workshop on lighting for film and an evening awards ceremony.
The first curated screening block begins at 7 p.m. on Friday in the BGSU Film Theater, featuring short films in music, drama and comedy categories. The second curated screening will start at 7 p.m. on Saturday, featuring experimental, documentary and horror short films.
Film appreciation presentations and visual essays created by BGSU film students are set for 1 p.m. on Saturday in Room 207, featuring a Q&A session and light refreshments. A lighting for film workshop is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday in Room 207 with Nicholas Weiss, a commercial cinematographer and BGSU alumnus, who will demonstrate lighting techniques used in professional interview settings.
The weekend will close with festival and departmental awards at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the BGSU Film Theater. Festival awards will include “Best in Show” as well as multiple genre, performance and technical awards.
Along with Weiss, judges for this year’s festival include Dyrk Ashton, filmmaker and former actor, and Michelle Glaros, filmmaker and chair of the communication arts program at Centenary College of Louisiana.
