BGSU lands grants from the National Science Foundation

From THE OFFICE OF U.S. SENATOR SHERROD BROWN

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded three grants totaling $648,355 to Bowling Green State University to fund critical scientific research projects and to increase participation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.

“Scientific research is critical for creating jobs and improving our economy. We unleash more American innovation when everyone is able to participate and we nurture all Ohio talent,” Brown said. “Bowling Green State University is one of Ohio’s great institutions of higher education. This award will help it advance our knowledge and continue Ohio’s leadership in innovation.”

Funding from NSF includes:

  • $350,000 grant for professional development for undergraduate mathematics faculty.
  • $248,355 grant to fund research on the effects of climate change on lake levels.
  • $50,000 grant to develop eco-manufacturing materials used in the manufacturing of semiconductors and other commodities.

Brown has cosponsored the Supporting Early Career Researchers Act to establish a two-year pilot program at NSF to award grants to highly qualified, early-career investigators at independent, higher education research institutions for up to two years. This will help prevent research talent loss due to job market disruptions caused by the pandemic.

NSF supports research and education in all non-medical fields of science and engineering.
