Bowling Green State University is reporting “a significant decrease” in its COVID-19 cases.
Ben Batey, the university’s chief health officer, said “that’s a very positive trend to watch and follow.”
From Oct. 7-13, the university had 19 new cases, that’s down from the 49 reported last week, according to its COVID-19 dashboard, and 130 the week before.
Batey credited this in part to those who have cooperated with the university and contact tracers, and quarantined and isolated when necessary.
“That has helped us turn the trend from an increase to a decrease,” he said.
The university now has 17 active cases with three students in isolation and five in quarantine.
Since the beginning of the semester there have been 483, including one faculty member and eight staff members.
In the past week, the university conducted 142 random surveillance tests on undergraduate and graduate students and had no positive results.
It also conducted 477 tests of targeted asymptomatic individuals and had three positives, a 0.6 percent positivity rate. Last week Batey said the university would shift its focus to athletic teams, the marching band and others who are unable to follow the COVID protocols.
Batey encouraged students not to let up on mask wearing and social distancing so the semester can finish strong, and students can return to their families for the holidays healthy.
