The “significant decrease” in COVID-19 cases at Bowling Green State University shows “the protocols we’re using are working,” said Ben Batey, BGSU chief health officer in his weekly update.
This “significant decrease” has resulted in some loosening of restrictions including opening up visitation in residence halls and social events where people can gather maintaining six feet distance and wearing face coverings.
That will continue, Batey said, if cases continue to decrease.
From Feb. 1 through Feb. 7, BGSU reported 34 cases. Of those, three were students, 71 percent of whom live off campus. The other cases were staff members.
That compares to 60 total cases last week. There have been 230 cases so far this semester. Three students who have tested positive are isolated in campus housing and six who have been exposed are in quarantine in residence halls.
In that period, 972 individuals on campus have been tested with 24 testing positive, a rate of 2.47 percent. The state positivity rate is 10 percent.
Since the first of the year, 7,601 tests have been administered, with 309 positives, a 4.07 positivity rate.
