On Saturday (Oct. 7), the Bobcat Bands will be conducting their annual Tag Day.  Band students will be going door to door in the BG area asking for donations to help support the many costs of operating the Bobcat Band.
Typically, the bands perform in over 70 performances each year in concerts, festivals, adjudicated events, football games, pep rallies, parades, veterans programs, Holiday Programs, the Black Swamp Arts Festival, Senior Citizen Concerts, and other events that arise.
The money raised will be used to primarily for uniform expenses (and also to assist with summer band camp expenses).  The high school band currently have 143 players and will likely be slightly larger in next year.  Most of the Bobcat Band uniforms are currently 29-30 years old and maintaining marching uniform pants, coats, shakos (hats), plumes and concert uniforms is a monumental task.  The band is expecting the need to purchase additional uniforms in the near future.
Tag Day has been an extremely positive experience for students in recent years as many community members shared their own experiences in high school band, shared their children’s experiences in the bobcat bands, showed them pictures of when they were in band, and thanked students for all the things the bobcat band does for the community.  Two residents have challenged each other the past two years to see who would give more change.  One downtown business owner gave the students a hundred dollar bill in support of the band program.  It has been good for the students to see and hear the strong support of community members.
Any donation is appreciated whether it be coins, cash or checks payable to BG Bands.  Donations may also be made by logging into the Bobcat Band Website and clicking “Donate Now” at the bottom of the home page.  Donations also can be mailed to BG Bands,  530 W. Poe Rd,  Bowling Green, OH  43402
