Cocoon puts plan in place for next month of pandemic

(Submitted by The Cocoon)

As an agency providing essential services per the government’s current guidelines, The Cocoon, Wood County’s only domestic and sexual violence agency, remains committed to serving survivors throughout our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we continue to carry out our mission, we have looked at all of the information, guidelines, mandates and health risks and have laid out the following plan effective May 4:

  • Our doors will remain closed to visitors through May 31.
  • As the mandate from the governor states to continue telework to every extent possible, those currently working remotely will continue to work remotely until at least May 31.
  • All staff will be required to wear masks when in the building. This includes while in the shelter facility.
  • Masks must be worn during all transportation services.
  • We will work to continue to practice social distancing.  Therefore, during in-person meetings with survivors, staff must wear a mask and sit six feet apart.
  • Survivors must wear masks at the courthouses and hospital.  We can provide masks if needed.
  • Current cleaning regimen will remain in place until further notice.
  • All staff must continue to take their temperature at the start of their shift and notify their supervisor if they have a fever.
  • All staff must report to their supervisor if they are having COVID-19 symptoms (fever, shortness of breath and coughing) or if they have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19.
  • All events through July 31 will be canceled. This includes our Parking Lot party.

Emergency safe shelter, assistance in security Civil Protection Orders, and support during hospital visits following an assault are still available. Those needing services should call 419-373-1730, option #2 to be immediately connected to an advocate 24 hours a day.
