County sees 115 new COVID cases in one day, 497 active cases today

Wood County recorded a jump of 115 COVID cases in the past day. The county is now up to 3,860 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Tuesday, Nov. 17, update from the Wood County Health Department. 

The number of active COVID cases in the county is now up to 497, with 37 more than on Monday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.

A total of 279 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus, with three more being hospitalized since Monday.

The county has recorded a total of 105 deaths from COVID. Of those, one person was in her 40s, three were in their 50s, 11 were in their 60s, 25 in their 70s, 45 in their 80s, and 20 in their 90s. Of the deaths, 59 have been females, and 46 have been males.

Of the total 3,860 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 102, with the median age of 36. Of those testing positive, 2,012 were female, and 1,848 were male. 

Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.

Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of last week, there were 25 areas in the county with active cases.

The Bowling Green ZIP codes areas had the most last week, with 151-155 active cases. Next was Perrysburg, with 131-135 active cases.

Northwood and Rossford areas both had 21-25 active cases, and Walbridge had 16-20 cases. The Pemberille area had 11-15 cases, while Millbury, North Baltimore, Wayne and Weston had 6-10 cases each.

Areas with 1 to 5 cases each included Bloomdale, Bradner, Custar, Cygnet, Deshler, Fostoria, Genoa, Grand Rapids, Haskins, Jerry City, Luckey, Portage, Risingsun, Rudolph, and Tontogany.

The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Nov. 2) in the county include 19 students and 16 staff: Bowling Green, 3 staff; Eastwood, 1 student, 2 staff; Elmwood, 1 student, 2 staff; Lake, 2 staff; Northwood, 3 students; Penta Career Center, 6 students, 2 staff; Perrysburg, 5 students, 4 staff; Rossford, 2 students; and St. Rose, 1 student; Wood Lane, 1 staff.

Of the total 3,860 cases in Wood County, at least 427 have been in long-term care facilities – 249 were residents and 178 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday. 

The following facilities have had cases, as of Nov. 11:

  • Kingston Residence of Perrysburg: 44 residents, 22 staff.
  • Kingston Rehabilitation of Perrysburg: 12 residents, 33 staff.
  • The Manor at Perrysburg: 28 residents, 14 staff.
  • Heartland of Perrysburg: 31 residents, 17 staff.
  • Otterbein Perrysburg: 6 residents, 18 staff.
  • Otterbein Pemberville: 16 residents, 16 staff.
  • Heritage Corner Health Care, Bowling Green: 14 residents, 10 staff.
  • St. Clare Commons, Perrysburg: 1 resident, 6 staff.
  • Grand Rapids Care Center: 1 resident, 2 staff.
  • Briar Hill Health Campus, North Baltimore: 45 residents, 19 staff.
  • Brookdale, Bowling Green: 0 residents, 1 staff.
  • Wood Lane Residential Werner House: 1 resident, 1 staff.
  • Wood Haven Health Care: 0 residents, 3 staff.
  • Waterford at Levis Commons: 0 residents, 3 staff.
  • Bowling Green Manor: 0 residents, 3 staff.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 61 of Wood County’s 105 deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
