From VISIT BG OHIO

Visit BG Ohio has awarded a $5,000  Tourism Grant for 2023 to the Bowling Green Curling Club .

Elizabeth Smith, Finance Committee Grant Chair of the BG Curling Club, applied for the Tourism Grant in hopes of using the money to help offset the cost ice equipment for youth, disabled, and visiting curlers. The BG Curling Club is looking to reach the youth and disabled demographics.

Smith said that anyone older than age 6 is eligible to try the sport, and that there is discussion of a wheelchair tournament happening at the Club this year. By expanding into these markets, the Curling Club hopes to draw even more participants to Bowling Green.

“Each year, the Club brings in thousands of people to our various bonspiels, Learn to Curls, and other club events. The Club would like to continue with its mission to grow the sport, but requires some new equipment to do so, as the current equipment requires replacement,” said Smith. “The curling experience is unique for this area—it is the only club in Northwest Ohio, and therefore draws special interest… Visiting teams from other cities, states, and sometimes even other countries stay, eat, and shop in BG.”

The purpose of the Visit BG Ohio Tourism Grant is to promote eligible tourism activities within the City of Bowling Green, OH. The program provides financial support for capital projects, events, and activities that generate publicity and substantially increase travel (overnight stays or day visits) to the City of Bowling Green for reasons of recreation or leisure.

Visit BG Ohio Tourism Grants are generated by the City’s share of sales taxes collected on overnight stays within the City of Bowling Green (lodging tax).

Applications for 2025 Tourism Grants will be due in the third quarter of 2024.

Visit BG Ohio (formerly Bowling Green Convention and Visitors Bureau) works to attract visiting patrons to generate economic benefits for the community.
