Curling season getting off to an early start

From BOWLING GREEN CURLING CLUB

The Bowling Green Curling Club (BGCC) is getting on the ice early this season and invites everyone to come out and give curling a try. Curling is an easily adaptable sport, and the BG Curling Club is equipped for both standing stick delivery and wheelchair curling, in addition to the traditional slide delivery.

Come Watch our First Bonspiel of the Year – The Early Bird

A bonspiel is a curling tournament, and the public is always welcome to come watch for free!

BGCC’s first Bonspiel of the season is The Early Bird, happening Sept. 9-11.

In addition to local curlers, there will be teams from around Ohio, Michigan, and Canada.

Games will be happening Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning. Check the BGCC website

for details.

Learn To Curl

BGCC is offering two- hour Learn To Curl Sessions (cost $30) throughout September and October.

Instruction is provided, followed by an opportunity to play a short game. You can choose whether you slide deliver or use a stick – or try both out and see how you feel most comfortable.

Individuals and groups can sign up.

This is a way to meet new people, make new friends, and get some exercise in the cold months.

Learn To Curl gift certificates also make great gifts. Details, dates, and registration are available on the BGCC website.

These six-week leagues (cost $90) begin in September. They blend game play with instruction and mix new curlers with experienced club pl

ayers. Experienced curlers always love a chance to teach newer players by sharing their knowledge and sometimes a good story. Details, dates, and registration are available on the BGCC website.

Curling Leagues

Even inexperienced curlers are welcome to join BGCC’s leagues. New curlers pick up the game quickly, and no matter how good you are on the ice everyone can enjoy some post-game broomstacking (drinks and snacks). See the BGCC website for all league times and registration information.

New in 2022! All-Stick League

This season, BGCC will be debuting an all-stick delivery league (standing or wheelchair), but stick curlers can also play in any of BGCC’s leagues. If you, or friends or family, have wanted to try curling but have been hesitant, perhaps for an ability or balance-related reason, you can easily sign up for a Learn To Curl and give it a try.

Many of our members have had fun stick curling for years – just come out to the club and ask them.

Youth Curling

BGCC offers curling programs for youth ages 6 and up! The Rockstars program is for kids in first through third grades and the Juniors program is for youth in fourth throough  12th grades.

Last season, one of our boys U18 teams competed at Junior National.
