David Darro DeWalt

David Darro DeWalt, loving son, companion, brother, uncle, friend, local Hairstylist and Business owner, of Bowling Green, passed away at the young age of 56, surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous fight against cancer on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

David was born on July 2, 1961 to Daryl K. and Linda L. (Frodenberg) DeWalt, in Truckee, California near Lake Tahoe, California.

David attended Otsego Local Schools and graduated in 1979 from Pendleton Oregon High School.

David graduated from the Sacramento California College of Beauty which led to his life long career as a hairstylist.

David was truly a man of many stories, his earthly life may have been cut short, but the 56 years he was with us was full of many adventures and experiences.

As his friends would always say, “David you really should write a book!”

From his infectious smile and laugh, David was able to touch many lives and those who knew him, absolutely loved him!

Even when he was diagnosed with cancer, David never slowed down; he continued to do what he loved, cutting hair and spending time with friends and family. While undergoing treatment, he did so with a smile, a laugh, and more concern for others then himself.

David owned and operated the Solarium Hair & Tanning Salon for over 25 years in Bowling Green; known for its tropical decor, David was able to bring the California trends to Bowling Green, where his clientele grew quickly.

David had the pleasure of expanding his salon and enjoyed all the hairstylists he hired and helped them build their careers.

His hard work and dedication to his Salon, led him to be recognized and awarded as one of the top 200 Hair and Tanning Salons in the United States.

After his second diagnosis of cancer, David decided to reinvent his Salon in order to better serve his clients while he was undergoing treatment.

He opened 3-D The Hair Salon which was just steps from his home and allowed him to continue serving his family of clients until he no longer had the strength to stand behind his chair. He was also proud to be the Hair Stylist for the Hanneman Family Funeral Homes.

David was honored to have been voted Best Hair Salon in Wood County for numerous years.

When not working, David enjoyed traveling.

He loved being in the sun and loved being on the beaches in Mexico and getting that perfect tan!

He also enjoyed camping along the west coast when living in California and most recently going to his lake site in Grand Lake St. Mary’s with friends who were like his family.

David had a true talent for gardening.

His home was featured on the Wood County Hospital Guild Garden Tour and he won numerous awards for his flowers and landscaping during the Beautiful Bowling Green Contests.

David also being in the kitchen cooking and entertaining friends and family during the holidays and parties and was honored when he was featured in the Sentinel’s Cooks Corner, however most of all, David loved spending time with his family and friends.

David’s smile, laugh and quirky comments and stories will always be treasured and remembered by all who knew and loved him.

David is survived by his mother Linda DeWalt, of Bowling Green; beloved friend and companion: Daniel Billings, of Bowling Green; brothers: Steven (Linda) DeWalt of Weston; Patrick DeWalt, of Montana; A host of loving nieces and nephews who gave him the nickname “Uncle Bubba”; Jade, Rosalinda, Priscilla, Derek, Timothy, Jace, and a very special niece who had him wrapped around her finger since she was a baby, Ashley DeWalt.

David is also survived by a host of great nieces and a nephew; Special family members:

Brad and Brandy Laux (Cooper & Kynsley); Brian (Kate Hugueley) Laux; Dale and Carol Laux, Marla DeWalt-Huggins along with a host of loving friends and loyal hair clients who meant the world to David.

David was preceded in death by his father: Daryl K. DeWalt; a brother: Larry DeWalt; a special niece: Haidyn N. Laux; and his beloved four-legged furry and loving golden retriever Baxter.

Visitation to Celebrate David’s life will be held Monday, November 13, 2017 from 5:00PM-8:00 PM in the DECK-HANNEMAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1460 W. Wooster Street/P.O. Box 648 Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Tele: 419-352-2171. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in the Deck-Hanneman Remembrance Chapel with interment following in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Memorial Donations in David’s honor may be gifted to either the Simpson Garden Park or to the Grand Lake St. Mary’s Lake Improvement Fund, Celina, Ohio.
