David Pepper to discuss ‘Laboratories of Autocracy’ at Perrysburg bookstore

From GATHERING VOLUMES

Gathering Volumes, an independent bookstore at 196 E. South Boundary St. Perrysburg, is hosting two discussions with author David Pepper on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

At 6 p.m. Toledo Persists will lead a book club discussion of Pepper’s “Laboratories of Autocracy,” a cautionary dialogue of how State legislatures, often ignored, play a significant role in deciding our constitutional rights.

Following directly after, at 7 p.m., a traditional author event and book signing featuring Pepper’s political thrillers as well as “Laboratories of Autocracy. “There will be an author reading, question-and-answer session, and a book signing. Light refreshments will be provided.

The event is free and open to the public.

Pepper is a lawyer, writer, political activist, former elected official, adjunct professor, and served as Chairman of the Ohio Democratic Party between 2015 and 2021. Pepper is the author of four novels – “A Simple Choice,” “The People’s House,” “The Wing Man,” and “The Voter File” – that integrate real-world politics and fiction.

The Wall Street Journal named Pepper “one of the best political-thriller writers on the scene.”

He also teaches election and voting rights law as an adjunct professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Following the publication “Laboratories of Autocracy,” he has engaged in a growing national conversation about voting rights and the attacks on democracy.
