Deep freeze in store for Christmas Eve & Christmas morning

Jeff Klein, Emergency Management Agency  director for Wood County, has issued the following advisory:

What to expect: 

  • Wind Chills to -25F this morning “warm” to -10F to -20F this afternoon. Wind chills remain -10F to -20F through Sunday morning.
  • Wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph continue into this afternoon before subsiding more significantly tonight. Gusts may be higher near the lakeshore.
  • Patchy blowing and drifting snow continues in open areas today, which can lead to continued poor travel conditions.
  • Light snow may add a light dusting to half inch of fresh accumulation across parts of the area today, mainly this morning.
  • Lake effect snow may bring accumulations to lakeshore communities in eastern Lake, Ashtabula, and Erie (PA) Counties tonight into Sunday. The highest confidence in this occurring is north of I-90 and I-86 in Erie County PA.

What has changed: 

  • The Wind Chill Warning will expire at 10 a.m. this morning. It will be replaced by a Wind Chill Advisory for the entire area from 10 a.m. this morning through noon Sunday.
  • The Winter Storm Warning has expired for the entire area.
  • A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued along and west of I-71 until 1 p.m. today for continued blowing and drifting snow.
  • A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Lake and Ashtabula Counties until 4 p.m. today for continued blowing and drifting snow.
  • A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Erie County PA until 4 p.m. Sunday for a combination of continued blowing and drifting snow today, and lake effect snow in northern portions of the county tonight and Sunday.
