Dorothy (Dot) Judith Taverner Doherty, a long-time resident of Bowling Green, Ohio, was born in New York City to Joseph Taverner and Viola (Buchs) Taverner on February 17, 1935. She was raised on Staten Island, New York. Dot met her husband Michael at the library at which she worked on Staten Island. They married three years later at Our Lady of Queen of Peace. In 1965, Dot and Mike moved to Bowling Green Ohio where they raised three children and resided for over 50 years.

She created the first library at St. Aloysius School and worked for many years at the Wood County Public Library, primarily as a reference librarian. At one time, one of her duties as a librarian was providing library services to inmates at the Wood County jail.

Dot traveled extensively with her husband visiting over 20 countries around the world and many places in the United States. They also lived in Ireland for a year and in Austria for six months, both as part of faculty exchanges.

She loved spending time with her family, watching baseball, traveling with her husband, doing genealogy, and reading. She was a long-time member of St. Aloysius Church.

She is survived by her husband, Michael, daughters Mary Lynne Doherty (Larry Pepper) and Eileen Doherty-Sil (Rudra Sil), and grandchildren Analyn Sil, Anna Fleming, and Aidan Fleming. She is also survived by her twin sister Joan Rizzo and brother William Taverner (Joan Taverner), and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her two sons, Michael and Danny.
