From DOWNTOWN BOWLING GREEN
Downtown Bowling Green is decorated and ready to kick off the holiday season Friday, Nov. 22 as Mayor Richard Edwards officiates the throwing of the switch that will light the Community Tree. The annual Community Tree Lighting Ceremony, organized by the Downtown Bowling Green S.I.D. has grown enormously in recent years and proves to be a well-attended event yet again. This year’s program will include a prelude of music by the BGHS Madrigals, dancing by Julie’s Dance Studio and refreshments from Qdoba, Meijer, and the Biggby’s Coffee.
The Wood County District Public Library has been a community partner in this event for so many years. The library opens its doors to everyone for a free concert by the Madrigals in the library atrium at the conclusion of the tree lighting. Also, many thanks needs to be extended to the City of Bowling Green for all their assistance with logistics, BG Fire Department for transportation, and the BG Police Department.
The prelude will begin with a performance by the Madrigals with a selection of seasonal music at approximately 6:45 p.m. The arrival of Mayor Edwards by fire truck will commence the lighting around 7 p.m. Those gathering are asked to be sure to stay off of Main Street in the spaces in front of the library for that is the designated area for the fire truck to park. Also, part of Court St. next to Pisanello’s will be blocked off to traffic.
The Community Tree Lighting is the first event that will kick off the 2019 Holly Day Festivities. On Saturday, Nov. 23 the Holiday Parade will take place down Main Street starting at 9:50 a.m.
Friday, Nov. 29 is Black Friday where local businesses will have specials.
