Driver severely injured in crash on 199 Tuesday

A driver suffered life threatening injuries in a two-car crash Tuesday evening on State Route 199 at Dowling Road in Perrysburg Township. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Bowling Green Post responded to the crash at 08:15  p.m.  

According to the patrol’s report, A 2021 Ford F-150 truck, driven by Arik J. Witker, was headed southeast on State Route 199, approaching Dowling Road. A 2005 Toyota Avalon, driven by Elliott T. Downard, was westbound on Dowling Road. Downard failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by Witker’s truck. 

Downard’s vehicle then traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. Witker’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and came to final rest in a ditch.

Downard was transported by life flight to Toledo Promedica Hospital with life threatening injuries. 

Witker and his juvenile passenger were transported by ground to Toledo Promedica Hospital with minor injuries.

All three occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and no drug or alcohol use is suspected. 

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Perrysburg Township Police Department, Middleton Township EMS, Perrysburg Township Fire Department, Ray’s Towing, and Pat and Son’s Towing.
